Backyard Skills: Mushrooms 101
Monday, January 28, 2013 at 6:30 PM (PST)
San Juan Capistrano, CA
The Ecology Center is excited to host R. Michael Davis, author and professor of plant pathology from UC Davis. Professor Davis holds a BA in Biology from California State University, Long Beach and a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from the University of California, Riverside. Join us for a lecture surrounding one of his most recent and comprehensive books: Field Guide to Mushrooms of Western North America. Discover the most common, distinctive, and ecologically important mushrooms available in your own backyard landscape.
Mushrooms are a critical link in the cycle of life. As decomposers, they break down dead or dying matter and turn in into food for other living things, fulfilling the needs of a healthy ecosystem. With knowledge and a field guide in hand, you could identify edible versus deadly mushrooms and gather fresh mushrooms when you need em! If this lecture about the fungal kingdom doesn’t excite your inner forager, it will at least fascinate and inspire.
